Zoë Tousignant, L’histoire en continu | The Continuing History

— An interview by Michel Hardy-Vallée

Following her appointment as curator at the McCord Museum, Zoë Tousignant shared her vision of photography – and its history – in this interview. “The boundaries of Québec’s history of photography definitely need to be stretched,” she remarks, expressing her interest in including “marginalized” artists and “lesser-known practitioners.” As an advocate for oral history and “print culture,” Tousignant is thinking about mounting “exhibitions that help to show a different perspective” on photographic reality. “The modern experience was not solely the domain of what we used to call high art,” she says. “It was also determined by everyday visual experiences – on the newsstand, on billboards, at the movies.”
