Alain Lefort, Résonance des silences
Le pixel : un fragile mirage | The Pixel: A Fragile Mirage
By Yannick Marcoux
Yannick Marcoux acknowledges, to begin with, that the landscapes photographed by Alain Lefort during his stays in Nunavik are “stunningly beautiful.” Yet, Lefort is doing more than simply casting spells. The visible ruptures in his still images and videos have a double effect, in Marcoux’s view: they rouse “our awareness of the artworks” and challenge “our presence in the world.” The Résonance des silences series thus offers a reflection as much on the origins of an image as the origins of our habitat. Marcoux dissects this reflection in his essay, paying attention to “the work of the water” that Lefort stages, his photographic “de/construction,” and the pixilation of his videos. If “it is important to [Lefort] to leave a trace of the creative gesture,” it is because it is important reveal our impact, as human beings, on “territories that are seemingly unattainable and unaltered and yet are jeopardized, from afar.”
