One road, two itineraries, and photography at the heart of it all. In her review, Claudia Polledri notes to begin with that “Dialogue photographique sur la Route de la soie is a surprising voyage through space, time, and the history of photography.” In this book, the result of a personal project by the Iranian photographer Payram, he brings his work into a real conversation with the work of Paul Nadar. More than a century separates the images that each of them took in the same region. Photography becomes, in a way, their “space of encounter.” In Polledri’s view, “the form of a simple and original book elegantly sustain[s] the very possibility of this exchange.” And it is up to the reader, she notes, to travel back and forth between the two journeys.
