The thematic section of this issue, entitled Intimacies, brings together the work of Maude Arsenault, Judith Bellavance, and Nicole Jolicœur, who explore different forms of intimacy through sensitive and engaged photographic practices. From identity and the female body in Arsenault’s work, to the traces left by those who have passed away in Bellavance’s, and the historical representations of psychiatry revisited by Jolicœur, their practices address childhood, grief, illness, and vulnerability, making the image a powerful act of resistance. The issue also includes three essays that take a critical look at artistic practices and the issues shaping contemporary photography. T

he reflections explore, among other topics, environmentally responsible practices in photography and printmaking in Québec; the relationship between looking and consumption in the work of Martin Parr; and transformations of territories in Lucy Raven’s work, through the liberation of the Klamath River and the related issues of colonial violence and decolonization.

In an interview, Denis Rioux presents Espace DÈS_, a new Montréal venue dedicated to photography and conceived as a space for artistic creation, dissemination, and exchange among artists.

The issue also features a selection of recent exhibitions in Québec, Canada, and internationally, as well as three reviews of books devoted to photography.
