Summary

The thematic dossier of issue 128 presents recent works by Geoffrey James, Louie Palu and Jinyoung Kim which highlight a feeling of disorientation and relative strangeness evoked by the exploration of different aspects of Canadian reality. A journey across the country by train, taming the inhospitable Arctic territory and the upheavals caused by emigration to a new homeland all challenge the idea of here crossed by the elsewhere.

The issue also includes three long essays on the work of environmental artist Marlene Creates (Newfoundland/Labrador), renowned publisher of photographic books Michael Torosian (Lumiere Press, Toronto), and the book Tu ne meurs pas (by Marie Sumalla and Ghazal Golshiri, from the daily Le Monde) which explores women's resistance in Iran through images.

There's also a lengthy interview with Éric Desmarais, director at at Sporobole, who discusses the challenges posed by the digital revolution for the arts and creative community. Finally, the issue features more than a dozen reviews of recent exhibitions and publications highlighting the work of artists from Quebec, Canada and abroad, including the latest issue of the independent Ukrainian photography magazine Soлomiya and the seven recent publications by the research group Formes actuelles de l'expérience photographique on Sites of Photographic Knowledge.
