This essay, with its assumed subjectivity – written in part in the first person – takes its source from La dimension éthérique du réseau par Anton Bequii, a book of texts and photographs. Although the essay’s author, Alexis Desgagnés, “shed[s] a bit of light” on Benoit Aquin’s important project, he takes advantage of the opportunity to reflect on what it means to take a stand. “It seems to me,” he writes, “that the time is right less for analysis than for action and, echoing a concern of Bequii’s, for speaking out.” Writing, a manifestation of speaking out, is liberating, and art can express resistance. Aquin’s alter ego, the Anton Bequii in the book’s title, shows that it ispossible to “oppose material rationality with the intuitive powers of spirituality.” In today’s world, “it seems urgent to collectively reappropriate the lost agora of speech,” Desgagnés writes. “We can count Benoit Aquin among those who feel and understand this urgency.”
