With the mission of denouncing mass surveillance, human rights violations, and state violence, the exhibition Terror Contagion by the Forensic Architecture collective combined several sections, including an immersive installation replete with shadows and light. “This installation may trigger a sense of involvement among spectators, as they themselves become data points in the matrix,” writes Edward Pérez-González, who notes, however, that “the use of this science-fiction-like aesthetic seems to mitigate the feelings of discomfort and vulnerability provoked by the disturbing information.” Although he wonders about the relevance of this exhibition, he subscribes to the idea that it “extends the conceptual boundaries of the museum, turning it into a space that expresses social denunciation and incites fissures in the power that be.” By inscribing itself in reality, “the museum becomes a place where things resonate, a ‘theatre’ that enforces the idea that we are all, profoundly, political actors.”
