Traces of Affect
— Charlotte Lalou Rousseau
As a thanatologist, Bellavance spends time with bodies in their most radical state: anatomies whose soul has fled. In her photographic practice, however, bodies disappear—or, more precisely, emerge in their most beautiful form: through clothing. These unusual portraits, in which identities remain undisclosed, convey, according to Charlotte Lalou Rousseau, the care the artist extends to her subjects and to those around them. The garments she photographs reflect the wishes of the families, the images they want to preserve of their loved ones.
