Jacynthe Carrier and Anne-Marie Proulx, Photography, care and community | La communauté, le soin et la photographie
— An interview by Jacques Doyon
Here, Jacynthe Carrier and Anne-Marie Proulx, co-directors of the VU artist-run centre, discuss the importance of exchange and human relations both in their respective practices and in VU’s activities. “We wanted to decompartmentalize the executive and artistic director positions and share them,” they note, “so that we could think about a working and living environment operating in co-creation and consultation.” This attitude encompasses the entire team: “Everyone can contribute according to their own sensibilities.” Although photography remains VU’s specific focus, the principles of support, guidance, and openness are fostered, the idea being to “invite in a broad community of practices in order to refine reflections and feed specific knowledge surrounding photography.”
